Is this for you?
- Your PFMEA was copied from another part or a template, and nobody trusts it.
- RPN or Action Priority numbers are chosen to avoid actions, not to find risk.
- Defects escape that the FMEA never mentioned.
- You need to move from the AIAG 4th edition to the AIAG-VDA method.
Who should attend
Process, product and quality engineers, plus supervisors and experienced operators. The people who run the process see failure modes that engineers miss, so a mixed group is strongly recommended.
What participants practise
- The AIAG-VDA seven steps: planning, structure, function, failure analysis, risk analysis, optimisation, documentation
- Building a structure and function analysis for a real process step
- Failure chains: linking effect, failure mode and cause correctly
- Rating severity, occurrence and detection honestly, and using Action Priority
- Linking prevention and detection controls to the control plan
- Practising on the free FMEA simulator: building the block diagram, structure tree, P-diagram and failure network, and seeing how they write the worksheet
Choose the format
| Format | For | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness (4 hours) | Supervisors, operators | What an FMEA is for, and how their knowledge feeds it |
| Practitioner (1 day) | Engineers | The full method on a sample part and process, with ratings and Action Priority |
4 hours includes a tea break; a full day is about 8 hours, with lunch and two tea breaks. This course is also part of the core tools courses. DFMEA can be added for design-responsible teams. Building or reviewing your own FMEA on your floor is a full review, done as consulting: see the FMEA & Control Plan Review.
What changes afterwards
Your FMEA becomes a working document the team trusts, linked to the control plan and updated when the process changes.
Questions people ask
AIAG 4th edition or AIAG-VDA?
Both. The programme follows the method your customer requires, and explains the differences if you're moving between them.
Do you provide the manual?
No. Please use a licensed copy; Kattamaipu is independent and not affiliated with AIAG or VDA.
Can we use our own part?
Yes, that's the best way. Under NDA if needed.
