Is this for you?
- MSA studies exist for every gauge, but nobody uses the results.
- Two inspectors measure the same part and get different answers.
- Your GRR is "acceptable" on paper, yet disputes with customers continue.
- Auditors have raised findings on MSA or calibration.
Who should attend
Quality engineers, metrology and calibration staff, inspectors, and process engineers who rely on measurement data.
What participants practise
- Bias, linearity and stability: what each one means on a real gauge
- Gauge R&R by the average and range method and ANOVA: running a study with real parts and appraisers, then reading the result
- %GRR, ndc and %tolerance vs %process variation: which one answers which question
- Attribute studies for go/no-go gauges and visual inspection
- Planning studies that matter: which characteristics, which gauges, how many parts
- Running studies on the free MSA simulator: a worn fixture, one appraiser who reads differently, a gauge that passed calibration but is wrong on the part
Choose the format
| Format | For | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness (4 hours) | Inspectors, operators | Why measurement variation matters; good measuring habits |
| Practitioner (1 day) | Quality and metrology engineers | Gauge R&R, bias and attribute studies: running them and reading the result |
| Practitioner (2 days) | Quality and metrology engineers | More study types (linearity, stability, destructive tests), plus a study on your own gauges |
4 hours includes a tea break; a full day is about 8 hours, with lunch and two tea breaks. This course is also part of the core tools courses. A full review of your own MSA studies is consulting work, not part of the course. Ask us about it.
What changes afterwards
Studies are planned to answer real questions, and results lead to action: a better gauge, a clearer method, or more training for appraisers.
Questions people ask
Which reference do you follow?
The AIAG MSA reference manual. Please use a licensed copy; Kattamaipu is independent and not affiliated with AIAG.
Do we need software?
No. Excel templates are provided; Minitab is fine if you already use it.
Is calibration covered?
The link between calibration and MSA is covered; detailed calibration procedures are not.
